The selected artist for the 2012 BECA AMA partnership with Gasworks is Fran Benitez.

This award is by nomination only.

Through the generous support of BECA AMA, Juan Yarur has set aside a fund to support Chilean artists in a three month residency at Gasworks. The grants program for BECA AMA is curated by Cecilia Brunson. The aim of the grant is to promote the professional development of contemporary Chilean visual artists.

The residency comprises:

  • Accommodation and living expenses in London
  • A studio at Gasworks
  • An artist's talk and Open Studio, or similar public presentations, at Gasworks
  • Administrative, pastoral and curatorial support from Gasworks.

This residency focuses on professional development and the exchange of ideas, emphasising the artistic process rather than the final product. The support, networks and creative environments that Gasworks can offer will provide the artist with the means to research and experiment with new work.

This residency considers emerging and mid-career Chilean artists, by nomination only. The selected artist should be able to engage discursively and speculatively with both Gasworks' environment and London's wider artistic and cultural context.

The selection panel for the 2012 BECA AMA residency at Gasworks comprised Rowan Geddis (Residencies Coordinator, Gasworks), Dr. Isobel Whitelegg (Director MA in Curating at Chelsea College of Art and Design and a member of TrAIN) and Guy Brett (Art Critic, Curator and Visiting Fellow at Camberwell College of Arts).

The 2011 BECA AMA artist at Gasworks was Catalina Bauer. This residency took place from April-June 2011.

The selection panel at Gasworks for the 2011 award was formed by Alessio Antoniolli (Director, Gasworks), Alexandre da Cunha (Artist, Gasworks), and Catalina Lozano (Former Residencies Coordinator, Gasworks).
