The White & Black Minstrel Show, 2007, Film Still

There and Back Again presents a screening of works made or begun on international residencies, followed by a discussion.

Screenings include:
Come Home Gringo Declan Clarke
I Will Heal You Ben Judd
The White & Black Minstrel Show David Blandy
Now Wait For Last Year Rachel Reupke

The discussion will include artists Declan Clarke, Gail Pickering, Melanie Jackson, Mark Aerial Waller, David Blandy, Ben Judd, and Rachel Reupke, who all live and work in England. The artists were selected to undertake residencies in China, Argentina, Colombia, Mauritius, and Bolivia at organisations within the Triangle Network.

Each artists' experiences have varied greatly, yet with residencies becoming increasingly recognised as important to professional development, it is particularly relevant to examine the different relationships played out between artists and their residency context.

The Arts Council England's International Fellowships Programme is a programme of residencies, some of which are organised by Gasworks and draws on its links within the Triangle Network. These Fellowships differ from familiar European and North American artistic contexts and place artists within artist-run, grass-roots initiatives outside of the mainstream international circuit. At this event, the artists will discuss the influence that participating in a Fellowship residency, both culturally and practically, has had on their practice.

Gasworks regrets there is no wheelchair access for this event.

Also showing:
RESIDENT Renata Lucas
