What would it mean to write with trans* affirmation? Can writing be transformative towards our bodies?
Trans-sensuality* & Trans-poetics* is a series of writing workshops for transgender and non-binary people facilitated by the artist Lou Lou Sainsbury, inviting participants to experiment in collective speculative writing, share resonance, feelings and ideas in an open trans-for-trans space.
This will be the first in a series of workshops that will take an open, experimental, semi-improvised approach as a collective-research group, developed alongside the making of her exhibition Earth is a Deadname, which will be presented at Gasworks in July-September 2022.
All ages and levels of art experience are very welcome!
The asterix (*) in trans* is to include all varied manifestations of what a ‘trans’ body might be.
The first session will focus on writing, drawing and sounding exercises, looking to uncover resonance with bodies in the world, and imagine trans* affirmation in everyday sensual experience that expands the languages of normative and often inaccessible medical treatment. Moving towards making a poetic constellation of affirmation that includes the more-than-human-worlds, stars and wanderers that inhabit it, how could we imagine a more ecologically-centered and liberated world?
The session will also include readings by Lou Lou Sainsbury, and writings from selected texts as provocations to open up creative thinking.
