Gasworks presents the second instalment of Nights In, a series of silent, moving image presentations. Following from the success of the initial Nights In in February, this one-night-only exhibition includes the work of five artists selected from open submission. There’s a supernatural feel to the selection, with an impossible table-tennis match, a hideous slug-like manifestation in a living-room and a mutating actress. At a time when broadcast-quality, stereo blasting, DVD producing, video technology reaches the high street at accessible prices, artists continue to make silent films, Nights In highlights the economic use of the medium by artists who, in making uncomplicated films, eschew any unnecessary use of sound.
