Church Manor Estate Summer Project
26 Jul – 30 Aug 07
Throughout the summer holidays 2007, residents of Church Manor Estate took part in a series of artist-led activities alongside practicing artists Richard Jones, Jacques Nimki and Gethan Dick. The workshops combined inspiration from contemporary artists practices and the landscape and surrounding architecture of the Housing Estate, located between Kennington and Brixton.
Activities included 1 second sculptures and Painting games using photography and giant bubbles to explore the uses and properties of water, ink and paint with Richard Jones; Drawing and badge making and Transparent Garden using the forgotten plant life of Church Manor Estate, and atmospheric lighting and coloured acetates with Jacques Nimki; and Photography alphabets and Site specific banners, exploring the hidden language and familes views on Church Manor Estate with Gethan Dick.
Works made by families during the series of workshops were displayed in Gasworks education room on 15 and 16 September coinciding with the exhibition Holiday In.
