Monday 18 February 2008 Working alongside artist Janetka Platun, families took part in activities based around Blades House by Matthew Darbyshire. Exploring subjects of the neighbourhood and the home, families made model rooms of a fantasy environment, considering how our choices in design, colour and scale can say something about ourselves. Photographs of the models will be on display in a forthcoming exhibition at Gasworks.

Working with artist Albert Potrony, families created their own ‘communicators’ in response to the practices of Gasworks’ residency artists Shaina Anand and Ashok Sukumaran. Exploring ideas around open source presented recently in Disclosures, families created their own interactive environment in the gallery space, installing a home made telecommunication system and performing simple actions. Video and sound footage of these performances will be included in a forthcoming exhibition at Gasworks.

Fegans Child and Family Care are working in partnership with Gasworks to offer arts activities to families already taking part in Fegans' existing family support programmes. A final workshop will be scheduled later in 2008.

This partnership is part of Even Better Together, Gasworks’ 3 year programme of family workshops funded by the BIG Lottery Fund.
