This week long project ran as the third in the series of Opening the Doors, a programme of art activities for families of all ages to take part in together. Taking place over May half term holiday, 28 May - 1 June 2007, the workshops were held at Kennington Park Estate Community Centre, and welcomed a range of families from the area to take part in sessions inspired by contemporary art.

Over the five days, different families worked with artist Emma Smith to create a variety of works including a paper installation, clay models, digital photography, sound recordings and text. Through introductory sessions, families viewed and discussed the work of artists including Hew Locke, former Gasworks studio artist, as well as Mark Titchener, Paul Noble and Jeremy Deller.

Families worked both individually and collaboratively to contruct their own works inspired by the techniques and themes introduced by Smith. Opening the doors concluded with an exhibition in Gasworks' Education Room from 6 - Sunday 10 June 2007, which was attended by families and arts audiences alongside the solo exhibition of paintings by Lynette Yiadom Boakye.
