We are pleased to announce that the winner of this year's Emdash Award is Berlin-based artist Cécile B. Evans. The Emdash award gives the winning artist the opportunity to realise new work at Frieze London in October 2012.

As part of the award, Evans will be in residence at Gasworks from July to October 2012.

Evans’ winning proposal takes the form of an audio guide to Frieze London accompanied by a holographic ‘host’. The audio guide will feature a panel of non-art experts that will describe works from the fair in a subjective manner. Evans aims to intervene in the vocabulary typically employed by the contemporary art market and introduce a different type of language to the fair, one based on feelings rather than material, price or provenance.

Recent solo exhibitions of Evans' work include Straight Up, Spencer Brownstone Gallery, New York, USA (2012) and Von Fuenf bis Dieben, Galerie Gavriel, Bremen, Germany (2010).

The artist has also participated in various group exhibitions, including Power of Consumption, Club Midnight, Berlin, Germany (2012), Auction I, De Joode & Kamutzki/Hackescher Hof, Berlin, Germany (2011), Berlin Kreuzberg Biennale, Berlin, Germany (2010), and Le Souci de Soi, Don't Projects, Paris, France (2009).

To find out more on the project, please visit the Frieze Foundation website.

The Emdash Award allows an emerging artist based outside the UK to realise a major project at Frieze Art Fair as part of the critically acclaimed Frieze Projects programme. The award is supported by the Emdash Foundation, a private foundation with a mission to support new ideas and emerging talent across disciplines, from the arts and cultural projects to science.

The Emdash Award winner in 2011 was Anahita Razmi, whose work Roof Piece Tehran was launched at Frieze Art Fair 2011 to significant critical acclaim.

Frieze London runs from 11 - 14 October 2012.
