Duke Riley, The Rematch, 2012

Duke Riley was born in Boston, Massachusetts and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Due to unforseen circumstances, Duke Riley had to return to New York and was unable to complete his residency.

Duke Riley will spend his residency producing new works on paper, relating to The Rematch, a project realised in Shanghai in spring 2012. The Rematch re-staged the mythological race that determined the order of the Shengxiao (the Chinese zodiac) and featured twelve gondolas carrying real-life animals representing each of the signs of the zodiac.

Recent solo shows include Two Riparian Tales of Undoing, Magnan Metz Gallery, New York, NY (2011), An Invitation to Lubberland, Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland, OH (2010), Those About to Die Salute You, Queens Museum of Art, Queens, NY (2009), and After the Battle of Brooklyn, Magnan Projects, New York, NY (2007).

The artist has also participated in a number of group exhibitions, including Announcing Magnan Metz, Magnan Metz Gallery, New York, NY (2010), Bright Path, Little Berlin, Philadelphia, PA (2009), Seaworthy, Corridor Gallery, Brooklyn, NY (2009), A Wrinkle in Time: Artist from the Registry, BRIC Rotunda Gallery, Brooklyn, NY (2008), Emergency Room, P.S. 1 Center for Contemporary Art, Queens, NY (2007), and The Bright Passage, East River Incognita 1, Pulse NY Contemporary Art Fair, New York, NY.
