Imran Channa, Open Studio, 2011

Working across illustration, performance, collage and photography, Imran Channa confronts the ancient with the modern in an attempt to renew traditional and popular imagery, distinguishing history from myth.
With his visual investigation, Channa challenges the authenticity of perceived history and the method by which a Pakistani state ideology has been created and maintained through the use of propaganda. His current body of work tells the tales of power's manipulative tendencies. The work challenges our beliefs and readings of contemporary concerns, questioning the representation of important historical figures.

Imran Channa's recent solo exhibitions include Contemporary Shahnama - Millennium Painting Exhibition, The Prince’s Foundation Gallery, London, United Kingdon (2010); The Sovereign Asian Art Prize, ARTSPACE, Helutrans, Singapore, Republic of Singapore (2010); The Rising Tide, Mohatta Palace, Karachi, India (2010); Badshahnama, Tmproject Gallery, Geneva, Switzerland (2010); Structures Within An Intervention,The Guild Art Gallery, New York, USA (2010)

Channa is the recipient of the Charles Wallace - Rangoonwala residency award for a Pakistani artist. The award is supported by the Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust and Rangoonwala Foundation and organised in partnership with Green Cardamom.
